Great hotel close to the entrance

Great hotel and everything you would expect from a luxury property. Yes the prices are steep but the location is great and we found the service great as well. We returned a bit late from visiting the site, but it was no trouble at all to ensure we could have breakfast. The room and facilities are great and we really appreciated the swimming pool after the long and hot walk around Petra.

Petra Scam Starting at the Information Booth and Ticket Office

What's wrong with Petra starts with the ticket office. To begin, your 50 JD ticket(USD 70) includes a free guided tour along the main route and a free horse from the gate to the entrance. The official information center personnel failed to tell us about that fact. Instead, when purchasing the tickets, he encouragingly told us about the benefits of hiring a private tour guide for an additional 50 JD per person. I gladly refused. On the way to the main route, a horse attendant told us about a free horse ride as a part of the ticket. I read the fine print on the back of the ticket, and sure enough, the ticket price includes a free horse ride and a tour along the main route. I went back to the ticket office to ask them why they didn't tell us about the free tour. The Information Center attendant told me the information is on the sign." He was pointing to a digital sign which changes every 30 seconds to a different message or advertisement. The attendant went on to tell me that I had to wait until we get 15 people before we could start the included tour which begins at the top of the hour. He showed me a tour sign-up roster with people signing up for the tour but canceling because they didn't have enough people at the start of the hour. I asked how would people know about the included tour if no one inform them when they purchase the tickets. Again, he pointed to the digital sign which was showing a different advertisement. Needless to say, we didn't get the included tour. What did get was a constant swarm of tour guides, and men with horses, donkeys, and golf carts who would not accept a polite know, instead my wife and I were haggled throughout the trip including a young guy hurling profanity at us for refusing his service. We were constantly on our guard and ended up going back to the hotel room frustrated because of the treatment. If you are looking for a vacation to relax and enjoy the view, Petra is not the place. My recommendations for visiting Petra include watching videos of the site online and taking a vacation in a country that understands tourists want to get away from the hustle and bustle of their life, relax, and enjoy their time off.

Perfect for exploring Petra!

This is a great hotel so conveniently located opposite the entrance to the Petra. The welcome was super-friendly as were all the staff. Our room had a balcony with a comfortable bed but it was perhaps a little dated. There are great facilities in this hotel including a wonderful roof terrace which is a lovely place to enjoy a drink watching the sun set.

Perfect location and brilliant, friendly staff

What a brilliant place to stay when visiting Petra. We received a fantastic welcome on arrival and we’re given a stunning room overlooking the entrance to Petra. We enjoyed some food and a drink on the rooftop bar and had a lovely breakfast in the morning. A genuinely lovely place to stay.
