Location & contact
we enjoyed Petra and the hotel proximity. location is unbeatable but unfortunately service in restaurants disappointing, we call and call room service with no one picking up then when picked up they seemed know nothing about ordering and have no recommendation, so, we have to dress up and go down where we were ignored for sometimes. we ended up eating outside.
This is a beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms right opposite the Petra Visitor Center. We had a delicious meal on the hotel rooftop. The staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel is also not far from the Cave Bar which is a must. We went for a pre dinner drink.
Our third time in Petra and the third time staying at the Movenpick hotel. Perfect location with the Souk just across the road. All staff were courteous and helpful, especially the Manager. Hotel is new and tastefully decorated in a Bedouin style. Room was, as always, clean and well maintained. Food was of high quality with a large variation to choose from. We cannot fault anything in this hotel and we are planning another trip next year. The rooftop bar is like a paradise oasis to get back after spending the day walking and climbing in Petra.
This hotel was very convenient for us being just accross the road from the Petra site entrance, and I was able to watch my grandson at both the start and finish of the Petra Marathon. My room was well equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable, but I could hear a pack of dogs barking outside some of the time. Food in the restaurant was a bit better than average and the imported Philippino waitresses worked very hard to please guests. Nice gift shops in an arcade next to reception were not over-charging as most hotels of this calibre. My only gripe was that the pool seemed quite small and nearly all sunbeds were in the shade, otherwise, this hotel deserves 4 stars.
We spent there 2 nights and compared to other hotels we visited in Jordan (same category and another Mövenpick) we found the following: Pros: - location: just in front of Petra Visitor Centre - nice pool - outstanding hall - good buffet both at breakfast and dinner - almost all the staff is very nice and helpful - very comfortable beds - nice design in the room Cons: - Some of the staff really needs to improve his English as in a 5 stars hotel it is pretty unacceptable that when you ask for a bottle of water or basic stuff you are not understood - The floor in our room was quite dirty (especially under the beds) and was not cleaned on the second day. I asked if someone could clean it and no one came - The manager at the dinner buffet had a very rude attitude when I politely asked for some milk to feed my two kids. As they don’t eat a lot especially on holiday I thought it might not be a problem to fill their bottles (and it was never the case in all the other hotels we stayed in around the world). He made me feel very uncomfortable saying the hotel would charge more than 8 JOD. I never expect to have the milk for free but usually the staff is very nice and doesn’t ask for money just for some milk. Instead they understand. His attitude was shocking especially when he reminded me that we were in a 5-star hotel. Well, I must say that you don’t deal with customer in that way in a 5-star hotel, as if they were asking for alms. So I went to ask at the reception where very kindly they redirected me to the bar and the bar men there have been very nice and of course smiled at me when I asked how much would they charge for the milk - the air conditioning was far too cold and made eating at the buffet quite uncomfortable
