Held in the historic old town of Geneva, the Escalade Festival is a sporting event for the whole family which commemorates the victory of Geneva over the Duke of Savoy in 1602. It features a running race ('Course de l'Escalade') for everyone and a traditional weekend festival with street parades where locals wear historical costumes. A special highlight is the consumption of chocolate pots at the end of the day.

Geneva International Film Festival
The Geneva International Film Festival is an annual event held in November. It presents films at cinemas and on television, while also encouraging new talents' productions. A number of prizes in competitive sections are awarded by an international jury.

Swiss National Day
Since 1891, the first day of August has been celebrated as "Swiss National Day". A wide variety of entertainment and events take place to commemorate the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Visitors can look forward to festivities including speeches, bonfires, fireworks and a paper lantern parade, as well as music and culinary highlights.

The streets of Geneva burst into life with floats, parades and parties, street theatre and entertainment, as well as a concert programme featuring national and international performers. There is also a clown parade and a funfair for children. Up to 1.5 million visitors pour into the city to join in with the merriment that culminates in a spectacular fireworks display.
