Shopping in Hanoi

Shopping in Hanoi is famed for its bustling markets and narrow shop houses but there are a growing number of flash boutiques and shopping malls on the rise. Whether you prefer a one-stop mall with department stores and designer shops, or getting lost in the Old-Quarter night markets and boutique stores, the city will surely not let you down.

Trang Tien Plaza

Trang Tien Plaza is a 6-floor shopping mall that is home to many famous international brands, such as Dior, Cartier or Louis Vuitton. It was originally built in 1901 in the French colonial style, however, in 2013 it has been renovated to its present appearance. This is one of the oldest shopping centres in Hanoi and is located on a corner next to Hoan Kiem Lake, making it very accessible from the Old Quarter. The building is iconic due to its rich history and beautiful architectural design.

Exploring Hanoi's Old Quarter

Hanoi's Old Quarter, with over a thousand-year's history, and 36 streets each named after its traditional product, remains one of Vietnam's most lively and unusual places. A tour to this bustling local area is a must for those travelling to Hanoi for the first time since it is covered with stores selling almost everything that a visitor's possibly in need of ranging from food, coffee to silk, embroidery and watches. In the Old Quarter, many of the streets were named after the crafts sold at that individual street. Pho Hang Be (Bamboo), Pho Hang Ma (Paper Product), Pho Hang Bac (Silver), Pho Hang Bun (Vermicelli), etc. are examples of the streets carrying the name of the products sold there.

Taking place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 19:00, the market runs through the Old Quarter, starting from Hang Dao Street and running north to the edge of Dong Xuan Market.
